Larry D. Hunter is corporate senior vice president and general counsel of Hughes Electronics Corporation, a member of the Hughes Electronics Management Committee and a member of the board of directors of PanAmSat Corporation. He was elected corporate senior vice president and general counsel in December 2002.

Hunter was named associate general counsel in June 2001 and was named corporate vice president in August 1998.

From August 1998 until November 2000, Hunter was chairman and president of DIRECTV Japan Management, Inc., which operated the DIRECTV™ satellite-to-home entertainment service in Japan. Under Hunter's management, DIRECTV Japan combined its subscriber base with SkyPerfect, the leading provider of satellite-to-home multichannel entertainment in Japan, and a subsidiary of HUGHES acquired an equity ownership of SkyPerfect, which was sold in October 2002.

Before joining DIRECTV Japan, Hunter was senior vice president, business affairs, and general counsel of DIRECTV, Inc. and DIRECTV International, Inc., and assistant general counsel of HUGHES. He oversaw the legal affairs of the global DIRECTV business, which now has continuing operations in the United States, various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hunter joined HUGHES in 1993, and assisted in various acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and commercial transactions. He became senior vice president and general counsel of DIRECTV, Inc. in April 1997.

Before joining HUGHES, Hunter was a senior partner at the Detroit-based law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn and assisted HUGHES' attorneys in various acquisitions and divestitures. At Honigman, Hunter specialized in securities, commercial finance and corporate law, representing a number of public and private companies.

Hunter began his career in 1975 as an associate at McGuire, Woods, Battle & Boothe, a Richmond, Virginia-based law firm. There, he was a corporate/banking and legal aid lawyer. In 1977, he joined Clark Equipment Company as a staff counsel. During his three years at Clark, Hunter was the firm's international attorney and assisted in various joint ventures, international financing transactions and commercial transactions. Before leaving Clark, he became the group counsel for the Material Handling Group, overseeing litigation and other legal affairs for that business segment.

Hunter graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, magna cum laude, in 1974 and also received a master's degree in economics from the University of Michigan. He received a bachelor of science, with high honors, in economics from the University of Iowa in 1971. He is a member of the Order of The Coif and was an associate editor of The Michigan Law Review. Hunter was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1950. He and his wife, Rita, reside Redondo Beach, Calif. and their daughter, Allison is attending college in Ellensburg, WA.
